CCTV Drain Surveys

Camera inspections that show the condition of a drain from the inside, so recurring problems and damage can be diagnosed accurately.

About CCTV drain surveys

A CCTV drain survey uses a waterproof camera passed through the drain to record what is happening inside it. Instead of guessing why a drain keeps blocking or smelling, you can see cracks, root ingress, displaced joints, sags where water sits, and build-up along the pipe.

Surveys are useful when a drain has blocked more than once, before deciding on any repair, when buying a property, and before building work that might affect existing drains. They also help establish where drains run and where responsibility for them changes.

After the survey, we explain what the footage shows in plain English. If repairs are needed, the footage gives a clear basis for deciding what to do and helps avoid unnecessary digging.

Signs you may need help

  • A drain that has blocked more than once
  • Persistent smells with no obvious cause
  • Signs of subsidence or damp near a drain run
  • Rats or other pests around the property
  • Buying an older property or planning an extension

Common causes

  • Cracked or fractured pipes
  • Root ingress at joints
  • Displaced or open joints
  • Sagging sections where water and debris collect
  • Collapsed pipework
  • Heavy scale, fat or debris build-up

What our approach means for you

  • See the actual condition of your drains rather than guessing.
  • Identify the cause of recurring blockages and smells.
  • Make informed decisions about repairs.
  • Useful evidence when buying a property or planning building work.

How it works

What you can expect when you contact Clear Drainage about CCTV drain surveys.

  1. Prepare the drain

If the drain is blocked or dirty, it is cleared first so the camera can see the pipe walls.

  2. Run the camera

The camera is fed through the drain from an access point, recording footage of each section.

  3. Review the findings

We talk you through what the footage shows, including any defects and where they are.

  4. Recommend next steps

If anything needs attention, we explain the options so you can decide what to do.

CCTV Drain Surveys FAQs

What does a CCTV drain survey show?

It shows the inside of the pipe: cracks, roots, displaced joints, collapses, sags, build-up and the general condition of each section. It can also help confirm the direction and route of the drain.

Do I need a survey when buying a house?

It is not required, but it can be worthwhile for older properties, homes with large trees nearby or where the drains have a history of problems. Repairs to underground drains can be costly, so knowing their condition before you buy can help.

Will I get a copy of the footage or a report?

Please ask about the format of the findings when you book, so we can confirm what will be provided for your survey.

Does the drain need to be clear for a survey?

A clear drain gives the best view. If the drain is blocked or heavily lined with debris, it usually needs to be cleared or jetted first.
